Iron-On Transfer Directions
Your iron-on transfer is printed and cut to order on premium TeckWrap printable heat transfer vinyl. You apply it at home with a household iron or a heat press. Directions also come with every order, and here's how to get a soft, bright, long-lasting result.
Please note: this is an iron-on transfer you apply yourself. It is not a DTF transfer or a DTG printed shirt, and no shirt is included. Your transfer is already printed and cut, so there's no mirroring, cutting, or weeding needed.
What You'll Need
- Your iron-on transfer
- A shirt or fabric item (cotton, polyester, or cotton/poly blends work best; avoid nylon and waterproof fabrics)
- A household iron or a heat press
- Parchment paper or a Teflon sheet
- A hard, flat, heat-safe surface (not a padded ironing board, since it's too soft)
Before You Start
- Wash and dry your shirt first without fabric softener, so the transfer sticks well.
- Pre-press the shirt for 3-5 seconds to remove moisture and wrinkles.
How to Apply
- Peel the backing. Carefully peel the paper backing off the back of your transfer.
- Place it on your fabric. Lay the transfer image-side up exactly where you want it.
- Cover it. Lay parchment paper or a Teflon sheet over the top of the transfer. Never put the iron or press directly on the transfer.
-
Press.
- Heat press: 310-330°F with medium pressure for 15-20 seconds.
- Household iron: cotton setting with steam off. Press straight down firmly for 10-20 seconds per section. Don't slide the iron back and forth. Lift and move to the next section, overlapping a little each time, until the whole design is covered. If your iron has steam holes, use small overlapping sections so no spots get missed. Pay extra attention to the edges.
- Let it cool. Let the transfer cool completely, then remove the parchment paper.
- Check the edges. If any edge is lifting, cover it again and press for about 10 more seconds.
Washing & Care
- Wait at least 24-48 hours before the first wash.
- Turn the shirt inside out and wash in cold or warm water on a gentle cycle.
- Hang to dry or tumble dry on low. Avoid high heat.
- No bleach, fabric softener, or dry cleaning.
- Do not iron directly on the design. If needed, iron inside out or cover it with parchment paper.
Tips for the Best Results
- Use Light Fabric transfers on white or light shirts, and Dark Fabric transfers on black or dark shirts.
- Firm, even pressure matters more than extra heat. Too much heat can scorch the fabric or the transfer.
- Test on a scrap of fabric first if you're unsure about your iron.
